Just scroll through Deepika Padukone’s Instagram feed and you’ll see that she’s a huge foodie. In April 2023, the actor visited Bhutan and shared many photos about the land of the thunder dragon. She also gave fans a sneak peek at the delicious food she tasted there. In an interview earlier this year, Deepika expressed her love for a particular Bhutanese dish: emma datsi. It is also known as the national food of Bhutan.
This stew-like dish made with chili peppers and cheese is a must-try for anyone who loves cheese and doesn’t mind a little spice in their food. Moreover, it is very easy to cook at home. We bring you a recipe shared by Megana Kadu, a blogger who is trending on Instagram.
material:
1 onion, 4 green chiles, 2 jalapeños, 1/2 tomato, 4 garlic cloves, 3 teaspoons oil, 1/2 cup water, 4 slices of cheese, salt (optional)
Method:
Add the onion slices to the hot pan, followed by the chopped green chiles and jalapeños. Then add chopped tomatoes and garlic. The next step is to pour in the oil and water. Then cover the pot and let the ingredients cook for about 5 minutes.
Then add sliced cheese and a little salt. Cover the pot again. Once the cheese has melted, mix all ingredients together. And this is how the dish is completed.
Ema datoshi is one of the most famous dishes of Bhutanese cuisine. In Dzongkha, Bhutan’s national language, ema means chili pepper and datsi means cheese. Traditionally, the cheese used in this dish is made at home from cow’s milk or yak’s milk curds.
Ema dashi can be enjoyed with rice or as an accompaniment to a meal.
