CHARLOTTE — One of the checkpoints at Charlotte Douglas International Airport was closed for police activity Wednesday morning due to an abandoned bag.
Around 9:30 a.m., the airport issued a warning for passengers to go to Checkpoint A for pre-checks as Checkpoint C was closed. The airport announced that the checkpoint had reopened just after 10 a.m. and normal operations had returned.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department initially said the closure was due to an investigation into a “suspicious package.” Within about 10 minutes, The department sent out another update. It is said that the luggage was an abandoned bag.
The closure did not appear to affect flights, although there were temporary delays as the airport anticipates an increase in holiday travellers.
Police said traffic delays were expected around the airport on Wednesday morning, and a Channel 9 photojournalist spotted the follower near the arrivals area of the airport.
