Delta Air Lines Flight 135 from Amsterdam was diverted to Goose Bay Airport on Sunday.
A Delta flight carrying 270 passengers was diverted to a remote Canadian town for almost 24 hours because of a problem with its de-icing system, the airline said.
Delta Air Lines Flight 135 from Amsterdam to Detroit diverted to Goose Bay Airport in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10.
The airport is located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, a remote town of about 8,000 people.
Delta Air Lines said airport operations were suspended due to weather and runway conditions that affected crew hours.
The airline sent a rescue plane, but the plane’s crew ran out of time. Delta Air Lines sent another flight to pick up the passengers. The flight was scheduled to depart from Goose Bay on Monday afternoon and take passengers to Detroit.
Delta Air Lines said it worked with ground staff to provide meals and lodging to customers. Passengers stayed overnight in barracks.
“We continue to strive to provide a comfortable experience for our customers, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Delta Air Lines said in a statement.
