Romulus, Michigan – A Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was forced to land after passengers were served spoiled food.
A Delta Air Lines spokesperson confirmed that Delta Flight 136, which departed from Detroit Metropolitan Airport on the morning of Wednesday, July 3, 2024, was scheduled to land at New York’s JFK Airport en route to Amsterdam.
Airlines officials said there were reports that some of the in-flight meals had spoiled. Medical staff greeted the flight when it landed at JFK airport at 4 a.m. Wednesday and treated affected passengers and crew.
There were 277 passengers on board. It is not yet clear how many of them ate the rotten food.
Delta Air Lines food safety officials are trying to determine what happened and are in contact with the airline’s food suppliers.

Delta Flight 136, traveling from Detroit to Amsterdam, landed at New York’s JFK airport early Wednesday morning after reports that some of the main cabin meals were spoiled. Medical staff responded to the aircraft and treated the affected passengers and crew. Delta’s food safety team worked with our supplier to immediately quarantine the product and initiate a full investigation of the incident. This is not a service Delta is known for.
