This week, Destiny 2 reached a milestone that’s definitely worth celebrating. The game has reached a stage where missions, expansions, and DLC that Bungie places in its “content vault” are there for longer than they originally existed in the game.
Similarly, content was moved from Destiny 2’s vault to the Beyond Light expansion in 1611 days, and as of yesterday, it was released 1162 days ago. Fate breaking news.
This removal was actually written into the story, with the pyramid ships arriving and erasing the four planets/moons from existence. Although temporary in some cases, both Mars and Titan have returned in bits and pieces following the story, but never as full patrol spaces. As a refresher, here are the totals of what was saved to the content vault during this period: This is far more than his four pyramid kidnappings.
- 4 campaigns (base game, DLC, expansion)
- 9 strikes
- 5 Raid (and Hideout)
- 8 Crucible Map
- Two gambit maps
- 6 destinations
- 15 seasonal stories
- 2 events
- 17 Seasonal Activities
- 3 exotic missions
- 27 unique exotic questlines
- 1 Tribute Hall
A few things have returned, such as some Crucible maps, but by and large the list is valid. Bungie says at least he plans to bring back a few other things, including one Gambit map and some exotic missions for Rotators. There is also speculation that Bungie may bring back some of the Destiny 2 raids, as there is currently only one other Destiny 1 raid available for Destiny 2, Wrath of the Machine. However, we don’t know if Bungie plans to continue re-enacting the raid after that, or even after The Final Shape period ends.

I’ve said before that the Content Vault was a turning point for the game. Probably the biggest one. The two main issues are that A) they removed content that players explicitly paid for, such as if they bought a boxed copy of the game at launch, and B) they potentially let new players join while switching between games. Most of the substantive content has been removed. Being able to play for free.
That’s true Technically Bungie’s terms of service state that they can remove content at any time, so there’s no need to file a class action lawsuit over this. But it’s also true that it’s hard to think of other games that have done something like this. This much Paid content for games. Literally years worth. Even events like WoW’s Cataclysm aren’t in the same situation, as fewer parts were cut and much of it was just reshuffled elsewhere. In Destiny 2, this is exactly the case. Had disappeared I then tried to split the diff by doing only deletions etc. half Expanded version of Forsaken (the other half is still on sale). Now they have promised not to remove any more expansion content from here.
Of course, Bungie has repeatedly stated that this was technically necessary for the game. Behind the scenes, managing this much content while updating the engine, lighting, and other changes wasn’t sustainable. And players say much of this content probably won’t be played much now anyway.
But I think this is the principle.we know bungie can put things back together. We’ve seen them restore parts of Mars and Titan with old assets. They basically brought back all parts of the original His Leviathan raid as Season of the Haunted content (and then removed it again).

Sure, I understand that seasonal content will likely be rotated out (though Battlegrounds is the only time Bungie has done that), but I think some of the best content should stay. I think). But what about the base campaign? What about his first two DLCs? Forsaken? 5 raids and a hideout? Are some of the most classic exotic missions in gaming history?
The goal here should have been to focus on bringing it back over time, even if only piecemeal, if there was a technical reason to remove something like this. Instead, Bungie has focused solely on his Destiny 1 content, either new or re-enacted. This is understandable in a way, but again, this is the principle. Many players have never forgiven Bungie for removing all of this. From the outside looking in, this is a really strange occurrence that I haven’t really seen in other games like this.
Even if that teeth Granted, it’s a lot of work and it’s true that the content probably won’t get as much play as the newer offerings, but I don’t see this as a royal game like we’ve seen in other “redemption” stories throughout the game. see it as a practice of building a relationship. , from FFXIV to No Man’s Sky and more recently Cyberpunk. Granted, things have changed since Cyberpunk has made other modifications rather than removing the base campaign, but the mission is the same. Let’s get the players back on our side. And when it comes to the validity of the vault and the fact that all of its contents remain rotting inside, I think it’s pretty clear that that’s not happening.
