A while ago, Bungie rejected the idea of bringing back Crota’s End as a replay raid, considering it was smaller than other raids they hadn’t done yet. And yet, this predates Wrath of the Machines, and let’s just say that Destiny 2 made up for the claim that it was just an oversized dungeon.
Yesterday we held a raid race for the launch of Crota’s End. And surprisingly, Clan Elysium won for the fourth time For a nail-biting finish. But outside of the race, the changes to the contest mode Bungie created here, as well as the actual mechanics of the raid itself, have created the kind of brutal, hard service that many challengers were expecting. Everyone noticed right away.
Want an example of how much harder this was than Root of Nightmares’ contest mode, Lightfall’s raid?
That’s wild. While he hasn’t completely returned to his 24-hour completion time in Last Wish, where everyone was underleveled, he’s certainly entered new territory with the last few raids. Even the people who always complain that everything is too easy in Destiny, even the most difficult raids, seem to be happy with how well this has been done (looking at you, 4-time champion Salt) ).
Of course, this won’t last long. I’ve already seen people posting about how they double-crossed Crota himself in the contest, so strategies will evolve. And once the raid goes into “normal” mode, it won’t approach this level of difficulty. Because playing during these races isn’t like swinging with a weighted bat, it’s like trying to swing through a tree trunk, especially at this one.
Another change is that everyone who wins the Raid on Challenge mode during the race will get the new exotic Necrochasm as a guarantee, and people are already farming catalysts. It remains to be seen how powerful this weapon is compared to RoN’s Conditional Finality, which could be his best Destiny 2 raid weapon of all time, but the power that first launched in Destiny 1 I hope it’s better than the missing version.
As for future rerun raids, we don’t know where Bungie will go from here. They confirmed that there will be two new dungeons even after Final Shape. They have not announced whether they will continue to carry out repeat attacks. All that’s left is Wrath of the Machine, but that requires rebuilding a whole new enemy type into D2, Splicer Fallen, as well as making Destiny 2’s sandbox and old raids fit better. All the other subtle changes made to the system are necessary but still pose challenges. His actual D1 raid without changes would be a joke at this point without Bungie’s upgrades to his mechanics.
So go out and beat that wall. Otherwise, regular raids will come here soon.
