JACKSON COUNTY, MI — Classes at East Jackson Community Schools will be shortened to half a day on Tuesday, Sept. 12, officials announced, due to a possible cybercrime.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Blackman Leoni Public Safety Bureau. Superintendent Steve Doerr said school officials learned of the possible cybercrime Tuesday morning.
Mr. Doerr said he would cooperate with the investigation and reduce class time in all East Jackson Community Schools buildings to half a day. East Jackson Middle School students will be dismissed from school at noon, and East Jackson Elementary School students will be dismissed at 1 p.m.
All athletic practices will also be canceled on Tuesday.
Doerr said there is no threat to students or staff at this time and the district is accelerating its daily schedule to assist police with the investigation.
Doerr said there is no evidence that a data breach of any kind occurred.
Doerr said the district intends to continue its normal daily schedule when students and staff return on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
No further information regarding the investigation has been released.
