A tire fell off the wheel of a Delta Boeing jet in Atlanta.
The FAA announced Tuesday it would investigate after a tire under the front nose of a Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 fell off one wheel and rolled onto a nearby embankment.
The incident occurred at around 11:15 a.m. local time on Saturday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, as Delta Air Lines Flight 982 was taxiing before taking off for Bogotá, Colombia.
Air traffic control audio included in the FAA report shows a controller alerting the pilot to the situation, saying, “One of the nose tires has come off. It just rolled off the runway behind you.” I heard it.
The report also said the tire landed on an embankment on the south side of the runway.
After the incident, passengers and luggage were bussed back to the terminal and departure was delayed. The FAA report said the passengers were transferred to another aircraft to their destination.
No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the FAA.
Delta Air Lines apologized to “customers for the inconvenience caused” in a statement Tuesday.
News of this Boeing accident comes weeks after a door plug in the center of the cabin fell off during a climb on Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737 Max 9, and a number of weeks after the FAA advised the airline to check another model of Boeing plane. It was announced a day later.
On January 5th, a door plug fell off an Alaska Airlines passenger plane as it took off from Portland to Ontario, California. The airline previously said Flight 1282 had six crew members and 171 passengers on board.
According to a recording of the air traffic control call on LiveATC.net, the cabin of the plane depressurized shortly after takeoff, and the pilots called for an emergency landing.
The door was discovered several days later. The NTSB is investigating the incident.
