A family planning a vacation since the coronavirus pandemic began recently found themselves accidentally purchasing $10,000 worth of Disney+ streaming gift cards for a future Disney experience instead of gift cards to a popular park. I noticed.
Andy Coston of Normal, Illinois, said his parents had plans to take his family on a big vacation in 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic put those plans on hold. Ultimately, the family decided to reschedule the trip to Christmas 2023.
The list includes 16 family members, and her parents purchased a series of gift cards to cover travel costs and secure reservations.
In total, they purchased about $10,000 in gift cards online. But when I went to book my trip, it became clear that something was wrong.
Gift cards could not be used for purchases.
That’s when the family realized the gift card was not for a Disney park, but for the Disney+ streaming service. Seventy years of streaming history is enough, Coston says.
“We’re leaving in six days and the park tickets are sold out because it’s Christmas. My mom is distraught, my dad is frustrated, and my kids are worried we won’t be able to go to Disney.” she said.
This mistake was an “honest mistake” made by her 78-year-old parents, who do not use streaming platforms.
Coston turned to Tiktok for contacts who might be able to help her family exchange their streaming gift cards for something they could use at the park.
“It’s not about financing the trip; it’s about finding someone to help us transfer the money to the right gift cards so we can go to Disney!” she wrote.
Her story quickly spread, and after much effort, the family finally discovered an email that solved the problem.
“I’m glad this problem has been resolved, but I’m disappointed that this has happened. I really hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else,” Coston said. “I mean, I know it happened, so I think it probably will. It’s very frustrating to think that there are other people who have done the same thing, albeit in small doses… It would have been a disaster, it would have been a setback… So I really hope Disney realizes this and creates a better system since it’s not transferable. -We tried to do that. ”
