Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship
Here’s a look at what guests can expect aboard Royal Caribbean’s highly anticipated new ship, Icon of the Seas.
A fire broke out on the Royal Caribbean International cruise ship Icon of the Seas on Tuesday.
The ship also experienced a brief loss of power while it was anchored in Mexico’s Costa Maya, said Nathaniel Dellenbacher, a spokesman for parent company Royal Caribbean Group.
No one was injured and the small fire, which was confined to the crew areas, was quickly extinguished. The ship’s back-up power was quickly activated and the main power system was restored.
Dellenbacher did not have further details on where the fire started or how long the power outage lasted.
The ship’s route was not affected. The Icon, the world’s largest cruise ship, was currently on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise that departed Saturday from Miami, Florida. Cruise MapperThe ship is scheduled to visit Cozumel on Wednesday.
The news comes after an exhaust fire on Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Freedom ship in March, the second fire on the ship in less than two years.
