This bird is found in South and Southeast Asia. Philippine QuailBetter known as the Baya Weaver, this bird gets its name from its unique nests, which are often suspended from palm trees above the water. Identifiable by their bright yellow feathers, males of this species sew together nests from grass, leaves, and twigs. The female then acts as an inspector, pecking at the nest for weaknesses and only mating with the male if he’s done his job properly. This short video condenses about 18 days of meticulous work into three and a half minutes, showing one of the world’s most skilled and clever builders weaving a nest to impress females.
For nature’s great builders, finding a mate means building the perfect nest.
