Summer is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean you need a vacation or weekend getaway. East Tennessee is the perfect fall destination, as cool breezes blow through the mountain air and bright orange colors blanket the landscape.
USA TODAY agrees. Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains National Park made the news outlet’s top 10 list. Autumn outing spots and Places where you can see autumn leaves.
Gatlinburg was ranked #1 as the best place to visit this season, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park was named one of the 10 best places in the country to enjoy fall’s natural wonders.
The list was independently selected by USA TODAY editors and readers, the magazine said.

Gatlinburg takes first place 10 Best List of Best Travel Destinations for Autumn. East Tennessee was ranked #1 for its city attractions, dining, location, and access to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Another city not far from East Tennessee also made the list. Asheville, North Carolina, ranked 10th.
USA TODAY says Asheville is “best known for its spectacular beer scene, but the region also has its fair share of great natural attractions to explore, with destinations ranging from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the North Carolina Arboretum. “It will span,” he said.
