The fashion industry gathered at New York’s Spring Studio on Monday to bid a final farewell to former IMG president Ivan Burt, who passed away last month at the age of 60.
Model Ashley Graham welcomed everyone to the service, along with Brandon Maxwell, Maja Chiesi, Leslie Russo, Chuck Bennett, Bethan Hardison, Jane Hudis, Carolyn Murphy, and Stan Herman. , and all of Bart’s friends, including Leah Cohen, paid their respects.
The walls of Spring Studio were covered with photos of Bert. It featured solo photos as well as photos with Tyra and his famous clients over the years, including Banks.
Burt also said, “Through fashion images, we can influence social change.”
A source who attended the service told Page Six: “The overall theme was someone who led with integrity and cared about people.”
According to the program for the memorial, casting director James Scully will read a eulogy by Burt’s friend and theater critic Charles McNulty, and model Lily Aldridge will read a eulogy for supermodel Stephanie Seymour. His farewell speech also included “expressing special gratitude for the wonderful flowers.”
McNulty also wrote about the service on Instagram: “Cynthia Erivo sang ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and then joined the gospel choir for the final chorus of ‘Going Up Yonder.’ “Model Carolyn Murphy made me cry,” she wrote. ” and “Gigi Hadid toasts with great heart.”
Burt joined IMG Models in 1994 and served as president for 10 years, leaving the company to take an advisory role earlier this year, he said in March.
He has mentored the careers of models including Graham, Hadid and Karlie Kloss, all of whom were in attendance.
The service ended with a cocktail reception, where a “very emotional” Gigi Hadid reportedly gave an impromptu toast.
“It wasn’t planned. She stood up and talked about how Ivan was the one who believed in you when no one else did,” the source said.
Fern Mullis, Burt’s longtime friend and founder of New York Fashion Week, also attended the service. When news of his death broke, she described him as “one of my best friends.”
“What a tragic loss. Rest in peace dear Ivan, I loved you very much,” he commented on Instagram.
