After Google launched the first Pixel Watch last year, we suspected it would launch another smartwatch this year. Google has not only confirmed that the new Pixel Watch will launch on October 4th alongside the next Pixel 8, but also released an overview of the device in a short teaser video.
Google released a 15-second video introducing the Pixel Watch 2 on Friday, but given its brevity, there’s not much to glean from it. The new watch maintains the round design of its predecessor, with a large rotatable crown on the right side and a single button above the crown.
The video shows a simplified clock face with four what look like app widgets below the clock hands. If you look closely at the bottom of the watch, you’ll see markings like IP68 (dust and water resistance) and SPo2 (indicating blood oxygen sensor). This was promised at the launch of the original Pixel Watch and took more than half a dozen attempts to finally enable. There will be a software update in a few months).

Google likely wants to promote its product a month after launch, especially since most of the attention in the tech industry is focused on the Apple iPhone 15 launch event scheduled for September 12th. But it’s still pretty remarkable that Google itself is releasing a sneak peek. A video previewing its products – The company just teased the Pixel 8 and his Pixel 8 Pro smartphones in a similar short video on Thursday.
The video for the watch didn’t reveal when the Pixel Watch 2 would be released, but very small text on the screen said it would be available for pre-order on October 4, the day of the Pixel device’s launch event. It was stated that it would be possible. There was also no hint as to whether the price would change from his $350 (£339, AU$549) starting price for the original Pixel watch.
