Google Maps is currently rolling out its new color palette to the public, and users are understandably frustrated. While not a very dramatic change, Google Maps’ new colors surprised and alarmed users.

Water bodies are much less blue, and forest areas are a darker green than before. The route indicator is also a fairly bright and harsh blue color. For those who have been using Google Maps for years, these changes are disturbing.
“Not a fan. I didn’t like it when I started seeing it about a week ago. It’s not that easy to read for me. I’d like to go back to the old colors if I could,” said one Reddit user.
“Legacy Google changes a situation that was perfectly fine and makes it worse for no apparent reason,” said another user.

Users find it difficult to see roads in Google Maps when they’re not zoomed in properly. The biggest complaint users have is that the new colors make the details on the map very washed out and hard to see.
It’s unclear why Google suddenly decided to change the colors of Google Maps, but perhaps angry users will be able to convince the company to revert to the old colors.
