A Swiss-bound plane malfunctioned on the runway Friday evening and was ordered to ground for about 30 minutes at O’Hare International Airport.
According to the FAA Website, The ground stop went into effect at 7:54 p.m., but was not listed until about 8:30. Departures at the airport took an average of 30 minutes due to so-called “aircraft emergencies.”
The Chicago Fire Department responded to a problem with the Swissair’s brakes, but said no fire was reported. The Chicago Department of Aviation contacted NBC Chicago Airlines for additional information.
The plane, a Boeing 777, was scheduled to depart for Zurich at 12:10 a.m., according to FlightRadar24.
This incident follows another incident the same evening in which a small O’Hare-bound plane crashed into a forest preserve in nearby Elk Grove Village.
