After years of rumors and speculation, the first trailer for Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI has been released. The trailer was originally leaked less than a day before his scheduled debut, prompting Rockstar to release it early. As rumored, GTA VI will take players to Vice City, and the wider province of Leonida, and is expected to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
Rockstar Games has previously confirmed that the next GTA game is in development, but this is the first time that some details have been revealed about what it will be like. According to the trailer, the rumors that GTA VI will feature two main characters, a male and a female, also seem to be true. The female character appears to be an ex-convict, and we see a lot of his in-game social media, as seen in many reel-style videos on TikTok and Instagram. There’s also a Florida Man joke and Rockstar’s Miami version of Vice City, plus Leonida Swamp.
Other details include an airboat, an alligator being dragged out of a backyard pool (and then an alligator entering a store), police body camera footage, the return of Weasel News, dirt bikes and quad bikes, an apparent convenience story robbery, and Contains lots of neon. . Check out some screenshots from the trailer above.
“Grand Theft Auto VI continues to push the boundaries of what is possible for highly immersive, story-driven, open-world experiences,” Rockstar founder Sam Hauser said in a press release. “We are excited to share this new vision with players around the world.”
A press release reveals that the game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida, and players will visit “the neon-filled streets of Vice City and beyond.”
All of this, apart from confirming the name, setting, and release date window, specifically reveals how the game will be a step up from Grand Theft Auto V, which was first released in 2013. It’s more about setting the mood. There’s also no mention of what to expect from GTA Online. It’s an open question whether Rockstar will release a new standalone mode, continue to evolve the existing game, or do something else. A press release calls GTA VI “the largest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series ever.”
As mentioned above, the game is confirmed to be released in 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The press release does not mention a PC version. As with GTA V, that could come later.
The trailer was initially leaked by the Twitter/X account. As expected, his account was suspended within an hour.later rock star said on Twitter“The trailer has been leaked, so watch it in action on YouTube.” Rockstar senior gameplay designer Javier Altman said: Tweet“I was hoping to see this for the first time tomorrow with my teammates and colleagues. I felt like I deserved that moment.”
