It’s easy and low-cost side dishes to make your time gobbler.
In honor of the Thanksgiving season, I’ve put together two recipes that have deep meaning to me and are relatively inexpensive to make.
My family didn’t have much money, so the ingredients were relatively simple.
These recipes are Garlic Mashed Potato and Green Bean Casserole.
Cheese flavored garlic mashed potatoes
Cooking time: 35 minutes.
Available for 6 to 7 people.
material:
potatoes (3 pounds)
cheddar cheese (8 oz)
Garlic powder (3 teaspoons)
Green onions (6 pieces)
butter (5 tablespoons)
milk (1 cup)
cream cheese (5 tablespoons)
option:
Please substitute with your favorite cheese
salt (2 teaspoons)
Additional seasonings (just a few pinches)
Peel the potatoes under cold water and place in a large pot. Fill a pot with water and boil the potatoes over medium heat for 30 minutes. While the potatoes are cooking, chop the onions and after 20 minutes, soak in water. Cover the pot for the rest of the time.
When the potatoes are finished boiling, drain the excess water. Add the remaining ingredients, leaving the potatoes in the pot. Mash the potatoes with a large metal spoon, mixing all ingredients until fluffy. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
green bean casserole
Cooking time: 15 minutes.
Available for 6 to 7 people.
material:
Green beans, fresh cut (3 14.5 oz cans)
Chicken cream (3 cans)
vegetable oil (2 teaspoons)
Bitter melon adobo all-purpose seasoning (2 dashes)
cheddar cheese (6 oz)
Crispy onions (7 oz)
Heat the oil in a medium saucepan and add all the green beans. Gently simmer over low heat for a few minutes until the vegetables are soft. Turn off the heat and set the green beans to the side.
Preheat oven to 450°F. While the oven is heating, gather the remaining ingredients and a medium-sized cake or baking pan (just deep enough to hold the ingredients; about 3 inches is plenty).
Empty the can of chicken cream into the bottom of the pot. Lightly season the cream of chicken with all-purpose seasoning. Add 3 ounces cheese, green beans, remaining cheese, and crispy onions. Bake for 5 minutes. Let the dish cool before serving.
