Melomakarona are traditional Greek Christmas spiced cookies that are moist, syrupy, and extremely flavorful.
Here’s a family-friendly recipe from Flavors & Flair. Not only are they delicious, but they also leave a wonderful aroma in your kitchen every time you bake them.

material →
– 4 cups olive oil
– 2 cups sugar
– 2 cups fresh orange juice
– 1 orange peel
– 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
– 4 tablespoons cognac
– 4 tablespoons baking powder
– 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
– 1 tablespoon ground cloves
– 2.5 x kg self-raising flour
– 2 cups fine semolina flour
– chopped walnuts for garnish
For syrup →
– 3.5 cups sugar
– 3.5 cups honey
– 4 cups water
– 1 cinnamon stick
Method →
– Add sugar and oil to a large bowl and whisk for about 7 minutes.
– In a small bowl, mix together the orange juice, cognac, and baking soda.
– Pour the juice into the sugar mixture and also add the orange zest, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla sugar and semolina and whisk until well mixed.
– Slowly add the flour and mix.
– Knead the dough by hand until it is soft and smooth.
– Start shaping the melomacarona into a rectangular shape and place each piece on a tray lined with baking paper.
– Bake in the oven at 180℃ (preheated) for 20 minutes or until the melomacarona is golden brown.
– While making the syrup, put all the ingredients in a saucepan and boil for 6 minutes.
– Once the melomacarona comes out of the oven, place them in the cooled syrup and turn them over with a slotted spoon to absorb the syrup.
– Place the cookies on a plate and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
