A few months ago, Honor launched its feature-packed foldable phone Magic V2 in China. During last week’s IFA 2023 exhibition, the Chinese smartphone company announced that Magic V2 will be released “worldwide.” However, Honor’s global launch meant that the foldable phone would go on sale in some countries in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. But even then, it will be too late to compete with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Honor Magic V2’s global launch is scheduled for Q1 2024, six months after Galaxy Z Fold 5
it is It has been reported Honor Magic V2 is expected to launch in select European markets during the first quarter of 2024. This comes almost six months after the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5. According to the report, the price of Honor Magic V2 will be similar to Honor Magic V. That means the price can be around 1,600 euros. This is 300 euros cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. But by the time Magic V2 launches, Samsung is likely to offer a lot of discounts on the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
The Honor Magic V2 won’t be much cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 due to the usual discounts by Samsung. And if so, people may still prefer the Galaxy Z Fold 5 due to Samsung’s promise of longer software updates. For the record, Honor promises to bring three Android OS updates to the Magic V2, while the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will receive four major Android OS updates. Samsung has much better software design and quality than Honor. Also, this Korean company has excellent after-sales network and brand recognition in most Asian, European and Latin American countries.
Honor Magic V2 specifications
Honor Magic V2 features a thinner (10.1 mm) and lighter (231 g) design, an almost wrinkle-free inner foldable screen, and outer and inner screens. The cover screen is also brighter at 2,500 nits. Both screens are stylus compatible. This foldable phone features the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 16GB RAM, and up to 1TB storage. However, this phone does not have an IPX8 rating of water resistance.
Magic V2 features a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus, and a 20MP telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom. It has a 16MP selfie camera on the front, but it can’t record 4K 60fps video like the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The main camera also cannot record 8K video. Connectivity features are similar to Galaxy Z Fold 5, except for UWB.
However, Honor’s foldable phone has a much larger battery at 5,000mAh and can be charged at 66W. Despite all these benefits, if Honor’s launch is delayed, Samsung may have the last laugh due to better brand recognition, water resistance, and software update support.
