A world-renowned makeup artist has revealed the three biggest mistakes women make that make their face look older.
Wayne GossThe 23-year-old, who rose to fame on YouTube for sharing make-up tutorials, told FEMAIL that the three mistakes were “easily fixable”.
The problem is that most people don’t realize where they went wrong.
“Most of us will wear makeup to improve our appearance or to hide wrinkles that have developed over the years,” he explained.
“But with just a little mistake, the makeup we wear can actually backfire and make our faces look up to 10 years older, rather than just one or two.”
Applying metallic eyeshadow, using the wrong concealer, and not prepping your face before foundation are some of the most common ageing mistakes.
Avoid metallic eyeshadows
Goss recommends opting for classic matte eyeshadows over edgy metallic colors.
“Matte finishes generally work best because they don’t show wrinkles or creases,” he says.
Metallic eyeshadows adhere to fine lines and wrinkles, accentuating them instead of hiding them.
Types of concealers
Wayne wants people to pay more attention to concealer.
“In general, applying too much concealer around the eyes can make your face look older, so it’s really important to choose a shade that matches your skin tone,” he said.
Wayne always recommends a cream concealer over a liquid, and says it’s best to apply it to the inner corners of your eyes as this is the area that doesn’t crease.
Always moisturize and use a primer
As we age, our skin becomes drier, so choosing the right moisturizing ingredients is important as they will affect the “look” of your skin.
Wayne recommends using beauty products that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid to keep skin hydrated.
It is also important to apply plenty of moisturizing cream before applying makeup to give your skin firmness and make it look younger.
Wayne stressed that it’s really important to invest in a good quality primer to apply over your moisturizer and underneath your makeup.
Primers act as a smooth base “barrier” between your makeup and your skin.
This “helps your makeup stay in the right place all day, not just in fine lines,” he said.
