Indiana Highway 45 southwest of Bloomington will be closed starting June 24 for about 10 weeks. Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) completes bridge rehabilitation project. The project is expected to be completed in late August.
The project will take place on the bridge over Indian Creek just east of Darrell Drive, about 3.5 miles southwest of the intersection of the state road and Interstate 69 in Bloomington.
Department of Transportation spokeswoman Sidney Nearman said the bridge over Indian Creek was closed for routine maintenance “to keep the bridge in top condition.”
The closures were originally announced on May 13 and were scheduled to begin on May 22. Neiman said the project and subsequent closures were delayed due to other Indian Department of Transportation projects.

The new closure timeframe means the project Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) The new school year begins Aug. 7. The Indian Department of Transportation will work with local schools to keep buses running on time and with minimal disruptions, Neiman said.
Approximately 6,600 drivers travel the affected portion of Indiana Highway 45 each day.
What are the detours if State Highway 45 is closed?
According to INDOT, the official detour is to travel east on Indiana Highway 445 in Greene County, turn onto Interstate 69 and reconnect with Indiana Highway 45 at the intersection in Springville. The detour is expected to add four miles to motorists’ commutes.
Drivers can also take South Dunlap, West Ison and South Harmony roads, which will add about a half-mile to the trip between the intersections of Indiana Highway 45 and South Harmony Road and Indiana Highway 45 and South Dunlap Road. Alternatively, drivers can take South Garrison Chapel Road and West Eller Road.
Nearman urged drivers to “use extreme caution and avoid distractions” when driving through construction sites.
