The plane departed due to an engine problem. Newark Liberty International Airport Officials said they plan to turn around and make an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon.
The FAA said the Israel Airlines flight diverted to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and landed safely around 3 p.m.
The Boeing 787 took off from Newark at 1:25 p.m. and was en route to Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, authorities said.
No other information was readily available. Multiple Port Authority spokespeople did not respond to messages seeking comment from NJ Advance Media.
The airline could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
