Jacksonville, Florida – A second cruise line could soon begin operating in Jacksonville. News4JAX News Partner Jacksonville Daily Record reports.
Jacksport CEO Eric Greene said at Monday’s Jacksonville Port Authority board meeting that new cruise lines are seeking approval for the Jacksport Cruise Terminal.
He had hoped the company would be added to Monday’s agenda, but said the documents needed for an agreement could not be completed in time for the meeting. Green also said he was “uneasy” about cruise lines finalizing the deal and requested a special meeting to expedite approval, JDR reported.
Board President Daniel Bean agreed to hold a special meeting within the next two weeks.
After the meeting, Green said the new company will operate a larger ship than Carnival Cruise Line’s Elation, the only ship that sails from the cruise terminal in Jacksport, and will carry fewer passengers, JDR reported. He said there were approximately 2,400 people.
“This is not to say Carnival is going to bring in bigger ships,” Green told JDR. “This is an additional service from another cruise line.”
JaxPort authorities could not confirm the name of the company.
