Japan’s prime minister announced that five people on board the coast guard aircraft were killed.
A Japan Airlines passenger plane was engulfed in flames after landing at Haneda Airport on Tuesday.
Flight JL516, which was flying from Chitose, Hokkaido, may have collided with a Japan Coast Guard plane as it was landing, officials told NHK, saying this was a preliminary assessment. The aircraft landed at approximately 5:47 p.m. local time.
There were 367 passengers and 12 crew members on board when the plane landed, NHK reported. NHK announced that after the plane landed, all 379 people disembarked safely.
Officials told NHK that there were six people on board the Japan Coast Guard plane, which was scheduled to fly to Niigata for earthquake relief.

Live video from the international hub on the outskirts of Tokyo showed firefighters battling flames that had engulfed the plane’s fuselage.
More than 70 fire engines were called to the airstrip as the fire raged. The fire continued to burn approximately two hours after landing.
The plane was an Airbus A350, according to flight tracking company FlightAware.
