Jay Leno filed for conservatorship for his wife Mavis Leno on Friday, Page Six confirmed.
According to TMZWe first reported the news Mavis applied after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
The diagnosis is “the basis of the conservatorship,” sources told the magazine.
It’s unclear when Mavis, 77, was diagnosed. A public hearing to select a guardian will be held on April 9th.
Jay’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The former Tonight Show host, 73, briefly met Mavis after they performed at the Comedy Store, a popular comedy club in Los Angeles in the ’70s. according to people.
They were introduced by mutual friends the following week and the rest was history.
The two married in 1980, even though Jay claimed he “wasn’t very good at dating.”

In a 1987 profile of the comedian, Mavis said her views on marriage had changed.
