The Princess of Wales wore the jewel at an event in support of the charity Birthright, which aims to protect human rights during pregnancy and childbirth. She paired this piece with her eye-catching black and purple Catherine Walker & Company gown. This look is probably one of Princess Diana’s most talked about ensembles of all time.
According to Sotheby’s, the necklace was one of Princess Diana’s “favorite” pieces. “Through Mr. Atallah’s friendship with Princess Diana, he lent it to her many times over the years,” Sotheby’s wrote on Instagram on January 14. She never appeared in public again until now. (Princess Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 at the age of 36.)
The luxury marketplace added: “This pendant is a highlight of the Royal & Noble sale, which is open for bidding online until January 18th. The exhibition is open to the public at London’s New Bond Street Gallery until January 18th. ”
