According to Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials, two of the 16-car trains derailed near Queens Village around 10 a.m. There were no passengers and no injuries.
Officials said the stuck train caused changes in service during the afternoon commute and delays in both directions. Hourly service remained available in Hempstead, Port Jefferson and Hempstead.
late thursday, MTA said “Earlier today, we completed the re-railing of two derailed cars on an LIRR work train. Normal off-peak service has resumed and will continue overnight,” Long Island Railroad crews said in a statement.
According to the MTA, a full schedule of LIRR trains is expected Friday, but “due to ongoing repair work, some trains may experience delays. Customers can check the TrainTime app for up-to-date updates. We recommend that you check for service updates and plan additional service as needed for travel time. ”
