To make gingerbread cookies, you will need the following tools:
cookie cutter.
rolling pin
Mixer: You can use a stand mixer or a hand mixer.
Piping bag for icing (optional).
To prepare and bake gingerbread cookies, you will need the following ingredients:
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (This recipe traditionally uses all-purpose flour, but you can also use cake flour or whole wheat flour.)
1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
1 tablespoon ginger
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves.
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsulfurized molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
You can easily make perfect gingerbread cookies by following these steps.
Combine dry ingredients. Flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, salt, nutmeg.
Beat the dough. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and molasses and mix on medium speed until combined. Next, gradually add the flour mixture and mix on medium-low speed until just combined.
Chill the dough. Divide the dough into 2 equal parts and form each into a ball. Then, using your hands, gently flatten each ball into a 1-inch-thick disk, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until the dough is cool but still slightly soft, about 1 hour.
Roll the dough and cut it. Unwrap one of the discs and place it on a lightly floured surface. Using a floured rolling pin, roll out the dough evenly until it is about 1/8 inch thick. Then use your favorite cookie cutter to cut out the shape you want, re-rolling the dough and cutting out more if needed. Transfer the shaped dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 350°F for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges and tops of the cookies are crispy. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to complete cooling.
decorate: Once the cookies have cooled to room temperature, decorate with icing (see below) as desired and serve.
Decoration and/or decoration options:
Icing: We usually use a simple powdered sugar icing. However, royal icing, maple icing, or any other type of frosting you like will work.
Powdered sugar/snow sugar: You can also lightly dust the cookies with powdered sugar.
Red hot: Red hot is the best choice for gingerbread and is definitely delicious.
Sprinkles: There are lots of fun sprinkles you can add to these cookies. Lately, we’ve been loving Sprinkle Pop’s fun sprinkle mixes. Or even if you are looking for natural colored sprinkles.
Easy icing recipe:
