HOLLYOAK, Mass. (WWLP) – Following the huge success of offering free admission to museums last summer, the Highland Streets Foundation will continue offering free admission to museums across Massachusetts in August.
Called “August Adventures,” the program offers families the opportunity to explore a variety of museums and cultural institutions for free. Every day in August, you can visit one museum, zoo, nature preserve, or historic site for free.
“As we celebrate our 35th anniversary this year, we’re pleased to partner with such a wide range of organizations that contribute to the incredibly rich cultural fabric of our commonwealth,” said Highland Street Executive Director Blake Jordan. “Increasing access and opening our doors to a wide and diverse audience is a shared goal for all of us, and we hope to welcome many visitors during August Adventures.”
Several of these museums are located in Western Massachusetts, including the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, which will offer free admission on August 21st.
“We are thrilled to be part of August Adventures and appreciate the Highland Street Foundation’s support of this wonderful initiative,” said Jennifer Shantz, executive director of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. “On this special day, many new families will visit Carle to experience joy through the globally beloved medium of picture book art. We are sure that visits to participating organizations will be educational, fun and meaningful memories for people across the Commonwealth.”
Some organizations require visitors to register in advance. Free admission periods for each location are as follows:
