A fire broke out on the world’s largest cruise ship on Tuesday, the same one where a passenger fell to his death last month.
Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico when a small fire broke out, causing the massive ship to temporarily lose power. an official told USA Today.
The fire was confined to the crew area and was quickly extinguished without any injuries.
The ship’s backup power was activated, preventing the vessel from being derailed from its schedule. The 20-story ship had left Miami, Florida, on Saturday for a week-long Western Caribbean cruise. Cruise Mapper.
The small fire is not the first notable incident aboard the Icon of the Seas since it set sail on its maiden voyage in January.
In May, a passenger jumped from the 1,200-foot cruise ship on the first day of a week-long trip to Honduras, just 300 miles from its departure port in Florida.
Passengers described “dystopian” scenes to The Washington Post as they believed the man was alive and prematurely celebrated being pulled from the water.
