In sad news for stealth fans, it looks like Snake’s first mission through Shadow Moses will be slower than expected. Publisher Konami has revealed that Metal Gear Solid is the only game in the precious trilogy that will be included in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. 1, it remains locked at 30 frames per second.
That’s despite confirming to the press that the Master Collection (and therefore all the content it contains) has a “goal” of 1080p, 60fps. I wish I could explain the details at the end, but that’s it. Konami has released eerie images detailing each title’s possible technical output. Check it out below.
*2 The final note states: “Highest variable frame rate achievable. Certain factors, such as heavy effects during gameplay/cutscenes, may reduce frame rate.” It is worth emphasizing that:
30fps seems to be the upper limit, and it doesn’t seem to be necessarily stable. At the risk of burying the lead here, that seems to be the case with Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater as well. There is a subtle but crucial difference between whether a game’s frame rate is locked or not. to Number like 60 or locked in 60 will have a huge impact on the gameplay experience for users who are sensitive to such things.
