Mexican restaurants often offer chips and salsa at the beginning of the meal. And, similarly, diners often get full long before ordering an appetizer. A woman on TikTok has discovered why we’re always full of chips.
Newsflash: Chips can be much bigger than you think.
tick tock User Sarah Joy Yates (@sarahjoyyates) recently shared her findings in a viral video. In the clip, the content creator was sitting at a restaurant table holding a basket of traditional tortilla chips. Next, I took the edges of two tortilla chips and put them together like a puzzle to make a whole tortilla.
“We’re all literally eating whole tortillas,” she wrote in the text overlay.
She jokingly expressed her confusion in the caption, “It’s my favorite food, but how many tortillas is too much to eat before the main dish?”
The Daily Dot reached out to Yates via direct message on Instagram and comments on TikTok. The video racked up 2.3 million views for him, and viewers were unfazed by Yates’ recognition.
“Yes, that’s what tortilla chips are made from,” one viewer wrote.
“So, how’s that?? I’ll always ask for four more baskets and then try to steal one more,” the second player said.
“You wouldn’t believe that,” said a third.
However, some people defended her.

“I know what you mean. We don’t really pay attention to how many tortillas we eat in total lol,” one user commented.
“Yeah, but I thought six or seven chips was worth one tortilla instead of two,” said a second person.
