Microsoft wants to make 2024 the “Year of the AI PC,” and it’s kicking things off with significant changes to new laptop and PC keyboards. The new Copilot key is now available on a variety of new PCs and laptops from Microsoft partners, giving you instant access to Microsoft’s AI-powered Windows Copilot experience with the press of a keyboard button.
The Copilot key is the first major change to Windows PC keyboard layouts in nearly 30 years. “Nearly 30 years ago, we introduced the Windows key to PC keyboards, giving people around the world access to Windows.” Yusuf Mehdi says, Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft. “We see this as another transformational moment in our work with Windows, with Copilot entering his world of AI on the PC.”
This new Copilot key replaces the Menu key (Applications key), which was introduced decades ago with the Windows key. On most keyboards it is placed next to the Alt key on the right side, but placement varies by his OEM and market. This is in the same place that Microsoft added a dedicated Office key to its keyboards in his 2019. Copilot Key provides chatbots like ChatGPT that can answer queries and perform actions within Windows by simply launching Windows Copilot, which is built into Windows 11. .
If Windows Copilot is not yet available in your country, use the Copilot key to launch Windows Search instead.Your existing Windows key is[スタート]Although it can open menus and create shortcuts to Windows features in combination with various other keys, the Copilot key is just a startup key for now. It is unclear whether Microsoft plans to allow the Copilot key to be used in combination with other keys in the future.
Microsoft has not discussed which OEMs will add Copilot keys, leaving announcements after next week’s Consumer Electronics Show. “His Copilot keys are starting to roll out on new Windows 11 PCs from our ecosystem partners, and will be available later this month and into the spring, including on his upcoming Surface devices,” Mehdi said.
It feels like Microsoft is building Copilot to: all This new Copilot key is part of larger AI-powered changes planned for Windows throughout 2024. “This new year marks a major shift in AI towards a more personal and intelligent future of computing,” he said. “From systems to silicon to hardware, it’s seamlessly integrated into Windows.” says Mehdi. “This will not only simplify but further expand people’s computing experience, making 2024 the year of his AI PC.”
Microsoft is adding AI to more parts of its software and services, as well as working on a “refresh” of Windows that focuses on new AI features. Even branding Microsoft Edge as an “AI browser” earlier this year shows that Microsoft’s AI push is far from over.
