technology
It’s a cozy evening and you just started streaming your favorite show. But as the story thickens, the Wi-Fi stops unexpectedly. Isn’t it annoying?
Before you disconnect your router, take a look at your smartphone. The culprit could be an app using up your precious bandwidth.
What’s the big deal?
You’ve probably seen notifications about too much data usage. Why does it really matter, other than the extra cost? I’m glad you asked.

Confirmation method
So let’s get into the nitty-gritty of how to detect sneaky Wi-Fi thieves on your Android or iPhone.
for android
As always, the steps vary depending on your phone. If that doesn’t work, search for settings Wifi or data.
You’ll see each app and the amount of bandwidth it used last month. On Android, you can go back up to four months for a more detailed overview. Select a date at the top of the screen and voila!
For iPhone
iOS doesn’t have built-in functionality to track Wi-Fi usage, but there are workarounds. Monitor your mobile data usage to see which apps are consuming the most bandwidth.
Heavier social networking apps and entertainment platforms can’t be used while using mobile data, so they may be hidden further down the line. Spotify, YouTube, and Netflix are some of the main culprits.
what to do about it
Of course, you know that if your most used apps are not being used and are consuming too much bandwidth, you should close them. There are other things you can do.
Perform an app audit while you work
Scroll through your apps and note the ones you rarely or never use. Do you have two or three apps that perform the same function? What about the one you downloaded years ago for a free trial membership?
If you don’t know where to start, your iPhone can help. For a detailed view of your app activity and what you use most, visit: setting > Screening time and select See all activities.
If you’re using Android, tap setting > Digital wellbeing and parental control > Dashboard Displays usage time for each app.
My advice is to lose fat. Devices work better when they operate lean.
