According to , the physical security market is rapidly embracing cloud and hybrid solutions. The state of physical security in 2024 Genetec Inc. report. Based on insights from her 5,500+ physical security leaders (including end users and channel partners) around the world, this report explores the strategies organizations are implementing to effectively address changing industry realities. We are considering security strategies for
The speed of cloud adoption is accelerating
Adoption of cloud-based solutions for physical security has been increasing gradually over the past decade, but is now accelerating. According to the survey, 44% of end users report that more than 25% of their physical security configurations are currently on the cloud or using a combination of cloud and on-premises solutions. This is a significant increase from the 24% reported in last year’s survey.
Cyber concerns about the cloud are fading
Cyber concerns about cloud-based solutions are significantly reduced. In a survey last year, end users believed that perceived cybersecurity risks were the main factor preventing organizations from adopting cloud-based security systems. However, there seems to be a change in consciousness. This change highlights growing confidence in cloud solution providers’ ability to establish robust cybersecurity measures. As a result, in the 2024 survey, respondents downgraded perceived cybersecurity risks to his sixth place among the factors preventing organizations from deploying security systems in the cloud.
Channel expects increased demand for cloud and hybrid solutions
Feedback from channel partners also supports the idea that end users are eagerly moving to cloud solutions. A significant 74% of channel partner respondents expect their current customers to adopt cloud connectivity for security over the next year. Additionally, 39% of channel partners said they prioritize cloud-based solutions whenever possible, and a further 52% offer cloud-based solutions at customer request.
IT and physical security departments are becoming increasingly interconnected
The increased adoption of cloud-based physical security systems has increased cybersecurity threats, data processing, and compliance requirements. As a result, IT and physical security teams are becoming increasingly interconnected, as evidenced by 55% of end users saying their IT department has access to physical security data. . As technology adoption increases and remote access from external networks becomes more commonplace, the partnership between IT and physical security will continue to evolve.
The future looks hybrid
Most organizations seem to prefer a hybrid approach that combines both on-premises and cloud-based solutions. His 60% of end-user respondents said their organizations are aiming for a security implementation strategy that combines both. The shift to hybrid systems is already underway, with 15% of end users saying their organizations currently store video surveillance data both locally and in the cloud, as reported in a survey last year.4 %.
“Hybrid cloud deployments are an ideal path for many organizations to seamlessly blend the power of local infrastructure and the cloud,” said Christian Morin, vice president of product engineering and chief security officer at Genetec Inc. Cloud solutions allow organizations to optimize the physical security installation that best suits their business. And, no matter how your security needs evolve, your systems remain agile and adaptable. It will maintain its functionality and continue to provide the functionality it needs.”
