According to new research, International Data Corporation (IDC) and xerbeam57% of businesses experienced a major security incident in the last year that required additional resources to address.
North America had the highest rate of security incidents (66%), followed closely by Western Europe (65%), and Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) (34%).
The findings also reveal a significant gap between self-reported security practices and reality. Even though 57% of interviewed organizations reported major security incidents, more than 70% reported significant changes in cybersecurity issues such as average detection, investigation, response, and remediation times in 2023 compared to 2022. They report improved performance on performance indicators (KPIs). Organizations (over 90%) believe their ability to detect cyber threats is good or excellent.
“While we are not surprised by data discrepancies, our research in collaboration with IDC highlights the fact that most security operations teams still do not have the visibility needed for overall security operations success. Even though TDIR varies, Steve Moore, chief security strategist at Exabeam and co-founder of the Exabeam TEN18 cybersecurity research and insights group, says: “Looking at the lack of automation and inconsistency in many TDIR workflows, even when security teams feel they have what they need, there is still room to improve the efficiency and speed of defense operations. Of course.”
Globally, organizations can only monitor 66% of their IT environments, leaving plenty of room for blind spots such as the cloud. Additionally, 53% of global organizations have automated less than half of their TDIR workflows.
When asked what areas they need help with, 36% of organizations say they need to seek third-party help when managing threat detection and response, making it difficult to do it completely on your own. says.
“As organizations continue to improve their TDIR processes, their security program metrics may get worse before they get better. However, tools exist to get organizations back on track.” Moore said. adds. “As AI-driven automation helps improve metrics and team morale, demand for building more AI-powered capabilities is already growing. Market demand for AI-powered security solutions continues to grow in 2024 and beyond. I expect it to continue.”
