Ahead of Mortal Kombat 1’s release later this month, series co-creator Ed Boon is doing the press rounds to promote the new game.Surprisingly, he YouTube Show “Hot Ones”Now we’re going to do a hot sauce challenge, with guests answering questions about a specific theme.
As part of this appearance, Mortal Kombat fans were given a “first look” at Johnny Cage’s Jean-Claude Van Damme skin. Boone said that having the famous martial artist and actor in the game was an “absolute full-circle moment” for the Mortal Kombat series.
Ed Boone: “When we made the first game, our original intention was to make Van Damme an arcade game. So I called his people, and here we are: “For example, we want to make a game based on Van Damme, and either he said no, or we just couldn’t think of it.” I don’t know if it happened or something like that, but this was another group of 20-year-old kids who wanted to make this game. As I was watching the video game, I could see Van Damme saying, “No, no, we’re not doing this,” so I tried to interact with him multiple times, but this time… I won the lottery and got him. We actually have his voice and he will be the Johnny Cage character…”
