All in all, this was more of a humorous gaffe by NASA than a full-blown controversy. In fact, the space agency wasn’t necessarily overly negative, considering landing on Jupiter impossible anyway. This gas giant is primarily made of swirling gas and liquid, meaning there is no solid surface that humans could properly ‘visit’ the giant planet. Of course, that does not mean that it is impossible for humans to fly near the planet in spacecraft or land on the moons of Europa or other planets.
NASA was also probably realistic about the possibility of many believers being able to travel to Jupiter. First, humans have never actually traveled to another planet and even set foot on it. Jupiter isn’t currently high on the list because it hasn’t been used much as a stepping stone for human space adventures.
