It appears that additional content for The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom of Tears may not be as solidified as we originally thought after a recent update. Famitsu Interviews with series producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi seem to suggest that Nintendo has no plans for DLC at this time.
First of all, it’s worth bearing in mind that the Famitsu interview is currently only readable via the built-in Google Translate feature, so the gist of Aonuma’s answers may have been somewhat lost in translation. there is. That being said, the series producer’s answer seems to suggest that TOTK DLC is not a concern for Nintendo at this time.
The crux of the matter comes at the end of the interview when Aonuma and Fujibayashi are asked what they are working on next. The director suggested that he doesn’t know at this point what form the follow-up project will take, but Aonuma gave the following Zelda-related response (via Chrome’s built-in translation tool):
Aonuma : There are no plans for additional content this time, but I feel like we did our best to make the world view more interesting. In the first place, I decided to make this a sequel to the previous game because I thought there was value in experiencing a new game in a place called Hyrule. If so, if a new reason arises, we may return to the same world again. Whether it’s a sequel or a new game, I think it will be a completely new game, so I hope you’re looking forward to it.
It’s possible that the series producer is referring to another game set in the same Hyrule as Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, but the context of the rest of the answers suggests that’s the “additional content” in question. seems to be suggesting. is Link’s latest DLC.
This is definitely something of a surprise – after all, BOTW was treated to two different DLC packages – but given the sheer scale of Tears of the Kingdom, it’s unclear what that DLC will be. The question arises as to whether this is the case.
Unless we see some clarity in the future, we can assume that there will be no additional content for TOTK for the time being. It’s a shame, to be sure, but I think it’s a great excuse to finally get rid of the remaining 70% of Hull who’ve been staring at us for months…
