ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s not just Christmas cheer that’s in the air, health officials want to warn the public about the surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and influenza.
“I think it’s tough for people who are on vacation. They want to see their families, but our coronavirus tests aren’t always perfect, and it’s possible that they have influenza or RSV. “If you are not feeling well, it is very important to stay away from others,” said NMDOH Hotline Director Madison Schaefer.

“Get your booster before you go on a vacation trip. We know it’s not perfect timing, but we definitely recommend doing it before your trip,” Schaefer said.
“I think vaccination rates are too low. About 40% of adults have received a flu shot, and about 18% of adults have received the latest coronavirus vaccine,” said CDC Director Mandy Cohen. ” he said.
Washing your hands frequently and wearing a mask will also help protect you and your loved ones this holiday season.
“Please note that if you are visiting with loved ones, especially those who are elderly or immunocompromised, you may choose to wear a mask. Especially if you are traveling and on a plane. Especially if you’re in a hospital or visiting a hospital with a lot of sick people,” Schaefer said.
