Madison Resorts on Tuesday announced plans to build what it calls “Cape May County’s largest resort” in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey.
Madison Resorts purchased the Royal Hawaiian at Wildwood Crest for $13.3 million with plans to make about $7 million in renovations and property updates, according to information released Tuesday.
The company later announced that the property would be combined with a nearby property that previously housed the Oceanview Motel to create Madison Resort Wildwood Crest.
“When we received the call about the availability of the Royal Hawaiian, it became clear that we had an opportunity to weave its timeless architecture into the fabric of Madison Resorts,” Madison Resorts President Dan Alicia said in a statement. He said: “In a world where architectural wonders like this are rare, embracing the legacy of the past is not just a choice, but also a determination to remain extraordinary in a rapidly changing landscape.”
The new project will offer more than 200 guest rooms, three restaurants, two pools, five meeting rooms, two rooftop event spaces and other amenities, the company said.
The first phase will begin next spring, when Madison Resorts plans to announce preservation efforts for the Old Doo-Wop Hotel at Beach Avenue and Rambler Road, company officials said. The Royal Hawaiian portion of the plan is expected to open as early as summer 2024. ”
The second phase is expected to begin next summer, the company said.
