On January 1st of every year, most programs reset their dreaded status eligibility counters and the competition begins anew.but How much did you accomplish during the 2023 membership year? How to regain status in 2024?
Those of us who are lifetime members of some loyalty programs can escape the dreaded hamster wheel every year, but for decades, all programs have made that impossible unless you’re a really heavy traveler. It is clear that it is.
I’m looking primarily at hotels rather than airlines in early 2023, keeping Hyatt as my main program, while Marriott, which I already have Lifetime Platinum, is something I only enjoy if I have a free night. I decided to do it. This is a great double night promotion.
Marriott Bonvoy actually offered me a 2-night promotion, but it only affected the 12 or so nights I spent in the spring. I settled on Titanium because I selected his 5-night Elite as my Elite Choice at the 50-night marker and because a friend visited where I checked into the Marriott hotel and he said, This is because I stayed there as a guest. I completed the titanium by filling in the remaining three nights of my Christmas stay in Hong Kong, which was credited on the 28th.
At Hyatt, it’s even closer. I checked out of a hotel in Tokyo on his 30th and the accommodation fee was credited to my account yesterday (December 31st) morning.
This was too close for my liking and I won’t do it again if I can avoid it. Besides that, it was very inconvenient for me. Because she could have stayed at Centric for three full days, but in that case the stay would have counted entirely in 2024, and she would have missed one night at Globalist. It’s from. Even though I checked in on the 29th.
So we spent the night at the Hyatt Regency, checked out and changed to Centric Ginza instead. A huge pain just because of Hyatt’s overlap system and refusal to manually adjust the stay. If he had known about this disaster in advance, he would have checked into Bangkok for one night at the Hyatt Place in order to create cheap credit.
Hotel programs that failed to requalify:
- hilton diamond – Get status anytime with American Express and stay at Hilton for 4 nights in 2023
- IHG Diamond – I stayed at IHG for 3 nights in 2023, but I only got the status through Ambassador purchases and didn’t use either for the entire last year. It was a waste of $200 to buy it in the first place.
- shangrila jade It naturally expired and in 2023, there were no stays at Shangri-La.
I also regret to inform you that I have had all of my airline status accounts expired.
- Lufthansa Miles&More Senator Unless you decide to pay the €2000 extension fee through the paid extension program, you will fall into FTL status this year.
- british airways gold (oneWorld Emerald) will drop to Silver after being Gold for 12 years.I credited 475 Tier Points over the last year and didn’t see any financial benefit from running my mileage.
- united silver Stays Silver in partnership with Marriott Bonvoy. I missed out on upgrading to Gold due to segment requirements set by United Airlines. Also, he was unable to upgrade this account on his one flight on United Airlines, despite the considerable amount of money and flight volume. Similarly, when I was in the US, I didn’t really enjoy flying and I had no interest in flying long distances.
No matter what happens, I am a lifetime Gold (OW Ruby) on American AAdvantage which is worth it. That means checking into business class on Oneworld Airlines, at least for the time being.
Earning status benefits is as easy as booking a premium cabin ticket. Especially if you’re based in Bangkok, you won’t even get fast track benefits unless you ticket in business class.
I don’t invest money to earn miles, I use it to pay extra for business class tickets or buy miles to issue tickets.
conclusion
It’s always good to review your status-related investment and behavioral patterns over the past year. In 2023, they were able to requalify for Globalist and Titanium, respectively, with Hyatt and Marriott close behind.
I will test this new strategy by reducing airline elite status in 2024 and if it works for me, I plan to keep it for the next few years or adjust as needed. There’s also a new partnership between Marriott and Singapore Airlines, so even if you don’t extend your Lufthansa rank for payments, you’ll soon be Star Alliance Gold.
