Niagara-on-the-Lake is serving as a picturesque venue as state and federal government officials gather in town for a symposium on digital trust and cybersecurity.

The conference, hosted by Khaled Rasheed, Ontario’s Minister of Public and Enterprise Services Delivery, said the past few years have seen a dramatic increase in sophisticated hacking, leaving individuals and businesses more vulnerable to threats from viruses such as ransomware. This is the third such meeting in the current period.

“Increasing people’s trust in and participation in our evolving digital world was a central theme of the symposium,” the symposium release said.

“Each jurisdiction showcased its efforts to build innovative digital solutions and highlighted new possibilities to streamline and improve public service delivery.”

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Symposium was held as a sequel to the second Ministerial Meeting held in Vancouver, British Columbia in January 2023.

The first symposium on Digital Trust and Cybersecurity was held in June 2022 in Quebec.

“Working together is the best way to reassure Canadians that the Government of Canada is leading the way in protecting their personal information as they navigate our digital world,” Rashid said.

So far, government officials have agreed to continue cooperating on emerging issues such as AI, cybersecurity and digital trust. Discussions also focused on taking a unified, measured and measured approach to maximize the benefits of advanced technology.
