Hurricane Lee situation
As of 8 p.m. Wednesday night, Hurricane Lee was about 790 miles (1,271 kilometers) east of Port Canaveral and moving mostly northward at 9 miles per hour (14 kilometers per hour).
The storm is expected to weaken to a Category 2 with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (169 kph) and continue to weaken as it moves further north.
A tropical storm watch is currently in effect along the East Coast from eastern Connecticut to central Maine, and a hurricane watch is in effect further north along the coast.
The storm is expected to make landfall as a hurricane by Saturday evening or Sunday morning. The exact impact point has not yet been determined, but it is most likely to make landfall in areas of northern Maine or Nova Scotia. However, because the storm’s wind field is widespread, strong impacts can be felt far away from the storm’s center.
