Passengers eating on the tarmac near Indigo aircraft in Mumbai
New Delhi:
In an unprecedented incident in Indian civil aviation, a man slapped the pilot of an IndiGo flight inside a parked aircraft yesterday. Some yelled at the airline’s ground staff. Hundreds of people stood aggressively around the check-in counter at Delhi airport, asking when they would board their flight.
And now footage has surfaced on social media showing people sitting in groups eating on the tarmac next to an aircraft.
Yesterday’s fog disrupted flights at Delhi airport on such a scale.
“…IndiGo Goa-Delhi passengers who were diverted to Mumbai after a 12-hour delay were having dinner right next to the IndiGo plane,” the X user said in a video post.

In the video, exhausted passengers can be seen sitting on the tarmac, just a few steps away from the IndiGo plane, eating.
In a statement, IndiGo said it was aware of the incident related to a flight from Goa to Delhi on January 14. “Due to poor visibility in Delhi, the flight was diverted to Mumbai. We sincerely apologize to our customers. We are currently investigating this accident.” We will take necessary steps to avoid such situations in the future,” IndiGo said.
Smooth coordination at Delhi airport collapsed yesterday as hundreds of passengers on delayed flights demanded answers from airlines.
The disruption at Delhi airport had a knock-on effect on many airports.
The stressful day also saw an incident in which a passenger on an IndiGo flight attacked the pilot on board the plane on the tarmac.
In a statement today, Air India said: “We regret that the disruption to our operations due to heavy fog over the past few days in northern India, including our major hub Delhi, has resulted in some changes and de-synchronization of aircraft and crew rotations. “I think so,” he said.
