Pokémon GO trainers have called on Niantic to “rethink” future Shadow Raids, citing issues like regular raids and gym blocking.
Pokémon GO introduced Shadow Raids in May 2023. This is a new type of raid that allows Trainers to catch Shadow versions of Pokémon (including Legendary) for a limited time.
Similar to Elite Raids, Shadow Raids are known to be a bit more difficult than regular raids that populate Pokémon GO’s areas and must be organized by a Trainer to defeat Shadow Bosses.

However, some Pokémon GO fans are hoping that Niantic will change some key aspects of Shadow Raid in the future, following the debut of both Shadow Mewtwo and Alticuno.

In the OP, Shadow Mewtwo and Alticuno were fun, but found that “even the most avid Shiny hunters stopped”, explaining that “lower tiers were never exciting”, like Shadow Pidob filling the lineup. I mentioned a Pokemon.

They also go on to say that Purifying Gems are a “terrible mechanic” and are often frustrated by Shadow Raids blocking regular raids and gyms.
Other fans in the comments also agreed that Shadow Raids needed some changes to stay engaged, with one fan suggesting similar changes to Elite Raids.

Some trainers noted that they rarely saw other fans participating in Shadow Raids. “I haven’t really seen other people raid them. Most people in my area didn’t seem to mind Shiny even hunting it.”
If Niantic wants to keep fans engaged, it seems clear that fans want a little more structure when it comes to Shadow Raids. Perhaps next season the developers will introduce some kind of schedule when the next big Shadow Raid starts.
