External Affairs Minister Jaishankar launched a veiled attack on Canada at the UN General Assembly amid India’s spat with the country over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nigar, saying “political expediency determines responses to terrorism, extremism and violence.” Jaishankar’s attack on Canada comes in the wake of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of “possible” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of the Khalistani separatist in June.
“We must not agree that political expediency determines responses to terrorism, extremism and violence. Likewise, respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs cannot be exercised selectively. When the Reality is more about rhetoric, we must have the courage to declare it.”

Jaishankar also spoke about the G20 summit held under India’s presidency, Chandrayaan Mission 3, and the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in both houses of Parliament.
On India’s moon mission, Jaishankar said: “India has entered ‘Amrit Kaal’… The world has seen a glimpse of what is to come when Chandrayaan 3 lands on the moon. Today, our message to the world is governance and digitally enabled delivery across the expanding range of facilities.” Services and infrastructure are rapidly growing and in our dynamic emerging structure.”
Jaishankar welcomed the UN General Assembly with ‘Namaste of Bharat’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was identified as the leader representing Bharat at the G20 summit he hosted earlier this month. The government has used “Bharat”, the name used in the country’s constitution alongside India, in several official G20 documents.
