Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the inauguration of the Surat Diamond Stock Exchange on Sunday that the government has formulated plans for the next 25 years keeping in mind the development of the Indian economy.

- On making India a trillion economy, Prime Minister Modi added that the government is also working to boost the country’s export industry to an all-time high.

Surat Diamond Exchange: The world’s largest office building
- Prime Minister Modi described the Surat Diamond Stock Exchange as a result of “Prime Minister Modi’s guarantee”.
- Prime Minister Modi further said that Surat is among the top 10 developing cities in the world. Surat’s street food, skill development jobs, everything is amazing… Surat was once known as the ‘City of the Sun’. But now, with their hard work, the people here have turned this city into a “Diamond City”.
Surat International Airport’s transport capacity will triple with opening of new terminal
- On the security breach in Parliament, Prime Minister Modi said the seriousness of the security breach in Parliament cannot be underestimated and called for no bickering over the issue as opposition parties continue to protest in Parliament over the issue. The newspaper quoted him as calling the information leaks “distressing and concerning.”
- Addressing a gathering later, Prime Minister Modi said Surat’s diamond industry provides employment to 800,000 people and the opening of the new exchange will add another 1.5 million jobs.

SDB is part of Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for his SDB and his DREAM City project in February 2015. With 6.7 million square feet of floor space, SDB is now the world’s largest office building, housing approximately 4,500 diamond trading offices, according to the release. Built on his 35.54 acres in Dream City, the megastructure features nine 15-story towers, with office space ranging from 300 square feet to 100,000 square feet. .
