material:
For hot chocolate:
6 cups whole milk (1% or 2% is also OK)
2 cups fresh cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
8 ounces semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup unsweetened natural or Dutch process cocoa powder
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Toppings: marshmallows, chocolate candies, candy canes, chocolate syrup, salted caramel, etc.
direction:
- Place all ingredients in a large slow cooker. (This is the one I own and love!) Whisk vigorously to mix in the cocoa powder as much as possible. You don’t want all the cocoa powder floating to the top. Continue whisking for 1-2 minutes until everything is mixed.
- Cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 4 hours. Whisk every 45 minutes to 1 hour to prevent the bottom of the chocolate from burning.
- Serve warm with marshmallows and other optional toppings. Store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat on the stove or in the microwave.
